When considering a Labradoodle or Labradoodle breeder, please note that there are many different types of Labradoodles, such as first-generation often known as F1, second-generation, multi-generation, etc.
And there are also many different types of Labradoodle breeders, especially in Australia.
In considering the type of Labradoodle to obtain, give consideration to the two main distinctions, being the first-generation F1 puppies and the multi-generation puppies.
Briefly, the multi-generation Labradoodles go down a similar path to other dog breeds that are purebred, in which the same breed is bred together (eg Labradoodle to Labradoodle), and sometimes after several generations of breeding, they back-breed to a Poodle, to try and have the coat similar to a Poodle.
Of course, the Labradoodle is part Poodle to start with (eg Labrador to Poodle breeding), and a question or point that is sometimes mentioned in relation to some multi-generation Labradoodles is that if you want a dog to be like a Poodle, then why not get a Poodle?
Whereas in the case of the first-generation F1 Labradoodles, they are also bred from Labrador to Poodle breeding, but are not then bred together (eg F1 Labradoodle to F1 Labradoodle), in order to maintain ultimate Hybrid Vigor and to minimise Inbreeding Depression.
This issue can be lengthy to document, and there are a number of online sources of information available. It is suggested that a search engine (eg Google, Yahoo, etc) be consulted to obtain current search results for "labradoodle hybrid vigor".
So it is suggested that you inquire with the respective Labradoodle breeder as to what generation the puppies that they breed would be (eg first-generation F1).
Another issue to consider is that some Labradoodle breeders claim that they breed non-shedding or hypoallergenic Labradoodles. This matter has also raised various questions and doubt, and rather than comment or try to duplicate online content already available, if you are interested in this matter, then again it is suggested that a search engine be used, as there are numerous online sources of further information available. However, please note that other than for the very few hairless dog breeds, it is thought that all dogs have shedding.
